Democracy For The Greater Glens Falls Area Endorses Dr. Tim Merrick For State Senate


At its monthly meeting Wednesday night at the Rockhill Bakehouse Cafe in downtown Glens Falls, Democracy For The Greater Glens Falls Area unanimously endorsed Dr. Tim Merrick of Plattsburg in his race for New York State's 45th Senatorial District.

Merrick, a chiropractor, entered the race for the state legislature in early May. In comments prior to the vote Merrick stressed how his experience as a health practitioner lead him to emphasis health reform, especially bills like the Fair Share For Health Care initiative currently before the State Legislature, reform of property taxes and a reform of pork barrel spending projects in State Government.

Glens Falls DFA's endorsement follows on an endorsement by North Country Democracy For America. Merrick has long been a supporter and activist of Democracy For America, following on earlier support for the Dean For America campaign.

Greater Glens Falls Democracy For America will hold an open public forum for Merrick later in July.

The seat is currently held by Republican Betty Little of Queensbury. The 45th Senate District encompasses all of Washington, Warren, Essex, Clinton, Hamilton and Franklin Counties. Geographically it is the biggest state senate district in New York.

Democracy For America is a nationwide group founded in 2004 by Governor Howard Dean of Vermont following his Presidential campaign. Its goals are to empower Americans, build a new American community, support progressive candidates and politics and resist right wing extremism.
